OpenKnit: An Open Source Knitting Machine

OpenKnit-01 In a lot of ways hand-knitting can be seen as the original form of 3D printing, so it makes perfect sense that artist and designer Gerard Rubio, with some help from Knitic creators Mar Canet and Varvara Guljajeva, made this incredible open-source knitting machine called OpenKnit.

Down by the river today

The weather has been glorious today and the flowers have burst forth even more. For me it is the very best thing to sit or wander somewhere in the gardens and observe the beauty and abundant teaching that the plants give. Over the next few month [...]

A blossoming Centre

The centre is transforming and it feels good. Much of the flooring has been done downstairs, with preparation of walls progressing. Now with the terrace doors finally in, this teaching space has become more alive and real.Very soon, for at least three months the Equipa Quatro team will stop work at Ceratonia. This is good. Pause and take time to feel our feet on the ground, Breathe. Then later, [...]

Here I go again

And once again, as I did many moons ago, I find myself surrounded by half-packed bags and slightly too much kit, contemplating my imminent departure with the same mixture of nervousness and excitement, even though I should really have grown out of this by now. [Thanks to Genesis for the bike and Alpkit for the [...]

Physical Data India 2014

It’s great to be back at the world’s most important place for design – The National Institute of Design India . I’ve been here before exploring Physical Apps India and this time I want to disrupt things in another way. I want to start to think about data and the digital economy in India. Consider […]

Why £10 per head is not enough

This week saw the launch of British Cycling’s Choose Cycling report. A lot of it we’d totally agree with – many of its 10 recommendations match our own manifesto – but there is one headline figure that we do take issue with: that the UK government should spend a minimum of £10 per head on […]
